Larena Cherry MA, LPC, NCC

A native of Marine City, Michigan, Larena earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She later completed her Master of Arts in Counseling at Oakland University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan and certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors. She has worked as a feeding ministry’s social worker and in an inpatient behavioral health setting. After spending several years in North Carolina, Larena returned to the Marine City area, where she lives with her husband, a very energetic elementary school student and the family cats.

Larena has experience with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and mood disorder, as well as struggles with weight management, self esteem, goal setting, and accountability. She has helped individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts and step-parents that are unsure of their new family role. Larena also has firsthand experience dealing with the challenges of raising a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder and a passion to help veterans of all military branches. She believes that everyone has value and experiences challenges. Her mission is to help people heal their trauma, while learning how to thrive in an ever changing world.

Much professional development was focused on in 2024 and Larena completed her 30 hour certification for Supervision meeting the State of Michigan requirement to mentor, teach and supervise Limited Licensed Professional Counselors in their 3000 licensing hours.

Larena utilizes a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. She offers one to one therapy, family and couples therapy, and group therapy for struggling parents. Larena sees clients in person and online.

My therapeutic approach blends warmth and empathy with evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), creating a supportive and nonjudgmental space for healing and personal growth. I believe therapy is a collaborative process—a conversation where we explore your experiences, uncover patterns, and work together toward your goals.

Hello, I’m Deanna Kaufman, PMHNP-BC I’m a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about helping individuals feel grounded, understood, and empowered in their mental health journey. I earned my Master’s of Science in Nursing and have been a registered nurse since 2014, bringing more than a decade of clinical experience, compassion, and patient advocacy into my work as a provider.

LaVonne Turner is a dedicated mental health professional and advocate with a strong focus on empowering individuals and addressing disparities. Turner’s integrated therapy strategy combines Person-Centered, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, and Relational counseling.

With over 25 years of experience, Turner has been a staunch advocate for children, adolescents, and young adults who lack support or understanding. Her advocacy work spans for-profit and non-profit sectors in California, Michigan, Canada, and Europe, where she has targeted the less fortunate. She has collaborated with healthcare providers, corporations, city officials, and community leaders to provide education, representation, and funding to address multiple human disparities.

Turner’s background includes a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in public administration. Her extensive experience and dedication to mental health and advocacy underscore her commitment to positively impacting individuals and communities.

A.J. holds a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Counseling and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from Liberty University. He is a Limited Licensed Counselor (LLC) with experience working with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma, relational challenges, and identity-related issues.

Clients can expect a calm, nonjudgmental space where they feel genuinely heard, understood, and equipped with practical tools for meaningful, lasting change. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and solution-focused strategies, A.J. helps clients build clarity, resilience, and healthier patterns while navigating emotional and relational challenges.

Christian counseling is available upon request. A.J. is also a licensed minister and is well-versed in Scripture, thoughtfully integrating faith into the counseling process when desired.
